Thermoforming is a process of shaping flat sheets or films in rolls of thermoplastic polymer (thermoplastic) at a high-enough temperature into molded products.

In plastics processing thermoforming is one of the processing methods with the highest growth rates. Particularly it is relevant to the forming of roll plastic packaging.

There are fields of application where injection molding and blow molding compete with thermoforming. However in the plastic packaging production the thermoforming method is still beyond comparison in the “quantity-price ratio”.

The reasons are as following:

1. High performance;
2. A short payback period for tools (moulds);
3. Cost effectiveness of thermoforming equipment;
4. The possibility to manufacture thinner gauge products – and therefore cheaper ones – unlike using the injection or blow molding methods.
5. The possibility to process multilayer and foam materials with low density and high consumer properties;
6. The possibility to process the pre-printed materials..
